A·bout This Blog

Welcome & Bienvenidos!!

Thank you for taking a peek. Please explore at your leisure. Share a thought or two. Leave me a comment or follow along quietly.

Either way – I’m glad you visited.

This blog was created for a couple of reasons.

It exists as a form of therapy for me.

I was filled with anger and disbelief during this past election cycle and immeasurable frustration as I tried to understand how a person as unqualified as trump could beat Hillary Clinton, the most qualified candidate ever to run for president.

I tirelessly did my research and looked for reputable sources to share facts to disprove memes and articles that were constantly getting shared and re-shared. Some of these storeis were too far fetched to be believable but …people believed the false stories.

My goal was to educate the people who didn’t research what they read online. These were the voting citizens that were apt to believe, without having any proof, just about anything.

My attempts at this endeavor were futile. These people wanted to believe, so they did.

This anxious, growing resentment I was feeling toward people and their false posts and lies about my candidate was intensified each time I stumbled upon memes, comments and articles that inaccurately rendered Liberals as hostile libtards or as hypocrites.

Yes, we were angry, but these people didn’t know me.

Anyone that wants to have a more intimate view of a liberal, can do so through this blog. This is the second reason I am writing and sharing.

I have to say that I am not the same person I used to be. Others saw it before I did. I’m fine with that.

The unsettling daily revelations during that election cycle made me aware of a hostility that had always been present but mercifully dormant. We all witnessed the awakening and resurgence of an unacceptable yet tolerated blatant contempt toward others that were different in color, sex, religion and nationality.

It was suddenly so real. It was happening.

We had seen this before.

Was history going to repeat itself?

I changed. I adapted. I got angry. I got movin’

This blog exists as a liaison to offer the unsolicited discerning opinions of a native-born Texas liberal.

I hope that by providing this unobstructed illustration of my thoughts on sensitive topics and issues that are constantly and instantly bombarding us in a time of frequent status updates and readily available news sources at our fingertips; real and otherwise, that it will reveal a transparent view to my inner thoughts thus providing a bit of clarity and a world of insight to those that would disagree with my views and principles.

The wisdom I have gained along the way as I grow older has helped me to see that I have no choice but to set a new course to explore.

I may be a different person now in many ways but the James of yore is very much present . I am awake and I realize that I am not growing younger.

Thank you again for visiting.

I welcome the reader to a more intimate peek into my journey.

Now, voyager, sail thou forth, to seek and find.

  1. James, I so much relate. Though I’d been blogging for a small audience of about 3 family members since 2006, what propelled me to be more vocal in my writing was the outrage I felt over politics. And I’ve never been a “political” person until about the past 5 years.

Similar to you, writing has always been my therapy. I’m also the Mom of 3 kids: an almost 18 y/o boy, a 16 y/o girl, and a 12 y/o trans, non-binary child (assigned male at birth, has expressed feminine forever, prefers “they/them” pronouns but also will accept “she/her.” Just no “he’him” anymore.) At just under 3 years old, this child told me, “Mommy, you know I’m only a boy ’cause of my parts, right?” I didn’t know anything about trans people back then, let alone trans kids – but I took the time to research and learn.

It was during that time period of learning and beginning to become a vocal LGBTQ/TGNC advocate that I began paying close attention to what local politicians were doing. It was March of 2016, and my home state of NC (which I love dearly and have lived in forever) passed HB2, the most discriminatory, anti-LGBTQ law in recent modern hisotry. A.k.a., “The bathroom bill.”

I joined the fight to take down (ex) Gov. Pat McCrory, and we were successful. I began shedding light on the subject and writing to draw attention to what the corrupt NCGOP was doing in the dark while we slept. Gov. McCrory became the only sitting NC Governor who was not re-elected for 2nd term since the Whig party in the 1800’s. So naturally, when news arose of #DonTheCon trump, who intended to run for President, I thought we could oust him just like we did for the very anti-LGBTQ, transphobic Gov. Pat McCrory. I wrote with fevered pitch, trying with all my might to broadcast what horrible things were happening. People didn’t care. They said I was being “divisive,” etc. Then Trump won. I was already done playing nice, though.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. It’s just that your intro & welcome message really resonated with me, so I wanted to let you know I’m out there attempting to do the same thing. Occasionally, I’ll get emails from people who say their mind has been changed. That makes it all worth it. But most people, I’ve found, aren’t interested in changing. So now I write to find others who think like me. And if I’m lucky, change a few more minds along the way.

    1. Hi Martie, No need to apologize for the length of the post, I am honored by it. I am so thankful that there are people like you that are compelled to contribute an impartial voice in providing awareness to the xenophobic. I think that is an amazing testament to you as a parent.
I can relate to being done playing nice. I tried very diligently to show people that they were being misguided prior to election night. I made sure that I didn’t just share any post I came across that put #45 in a bad light without making sure there was some truth to it and checking the source. I took my lead from Hillary, who remained poised and presidential. I have long believed that integrity was the most important quality in a person,
After the election results, I was and am still dumbfounded, I learned that I could be deplorable too, and even though I try to be who I was before #45, I find that I am not above the name calling and that bothers me. I guess it comes from, like you said, trying to broadcast what horrible things were happening to people that just did not care. They have to believe what they need to believe and no matter how much proof I have and no matter how simple the real answer is, it will always fall on deaf ears to the people of that cult.
I am not sure who, other than myself, I am writing for nowadays but I am glad I started this site and I am very delighted to have you as an ally.
Thank you so much for commenting and I look forward to us chatting again.
      Now go get em tiger!!
